Dedicated to my Honey Bun ❤

Back to the topic at hand. I tend to get off topic every now and then… Can we say swoon?! Cause that’s exactly what this song does for me. The single from Childish Gambino’s  Awaken My Love! project has reached double-platinum status.

Well Alright Donald Glover! I’ve been a fan since before you released 3005 a.k.a. another banger! RIAA released the announcements for platinum and gold acts. In addition to the single’s success, the album also reached gold status by selling over 500,000 copies.

Glover is also nominated for an Emmy for Best Comedy  & Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his series Atlanta (which I love) see I told you I was a fan. He also received nominations in the category “Best Writing for a Comedy Series” for Donald and his brother Stephen for the episodes “B.A.N.,” (Donald) and “Streets on Lock” (Stephen).

The brother is winning! Kudos to him, and please don’t retire from music the game needs you!

Last night Vic Mensa held a listening session for his debut Album which is set to be released on July 28th. It’s like he’s guaranteed success with Jay-Z providing the introduction at his listening event. Big Tings!

According to Jay, Vic Mensa is a “once in a lifetime artist”

“Vic is a very special talent. He can do everything – sing well, rap well. He even engineers himself sometimes. He’s an incredible artist, like a once in a lifetime artist,” – Jay – Z

Here’s the part that I love about Jay’s intro… He basically informed the crowd to not be on no industry shit! (excuse the hood grammar) I feel him… In my experience, I have been witness to stale, boring events where essentially industry folk come out to people watch, “network” and not to have good time. Side note: I’m working on an event called Miami Renaissance and this will be strictly prohibited. You better bring your dancing shoes because that is how we roll on this side… lol but seriously!

Ok, back to Vic Mensa lol

Vic took the stage to speak on his debut project, stating the following:

“This album is called The Autobiography. This album is really my blood, sweat, and tears, and everything that I’ve learned up to this point in life,” the Roc Nation signee began. “I kind of had to go through a lot of different things to even be able to put this album down on wax… When I talk about this album, I often say that somebody listening to it would know me better than a casual acquaintance that has known me for twenty years, if you listen to this album and really digest it. The things that I’m saying on there are so personal and real to me, but I wanted to make it in a way that everybody could relate to those situations to their own lives… This is just my story, The Autobiography.”

The Autobiography: As Told By Vic Mensa will host features from Weezer, Syd, The-Dream, Pharrell, Saul Williams, Ty Dolla $ign, and fellow Chicago natives, Joey Purp and Chief Keef. No I.D. helms as the project’s executive producer.

2 live crew

Gah! My childhood… *tears*

The world is mourning the loss of one of the originators of Miami Hip Hop Christopher “Fresh Kid Ice” Wong Won, the co-founder of Miami’s legendary rap group passed away yesterday at the age of 53.

His passing was confirmed by the groups manager and member Luther “Luke” Campbell on twitter…

Born in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Fresh Kid Ice formed 2 Live Crew with Mr. Mixx and Amazing Vee in 1984 while serving in the Air Force stationed in Riverside, California. After releasing their first single “Revelation,” 2 Live Crew realized the reach of their single in Florida and permanently relocated to Miami soon afterward. Once Vee dropped out, Fresh Kid Ice, a.k.a. the Chinaman, became the only rapper on records like “Throw the D” and “Ghetto Bass,” until Brother Marquis and Uncle Luke joined the squad.

In 1986, 2 Live Crew dropped their debut album The 2 Live Crew Is What We Are, which reached gold status. They followed up with their sophomore LP Move Somethin’ and their most popular yet controversial album As Nasty As They Wanna Be, which featured their smash hit, “Me So Horny.” Although it was the first album to be labeled legally obscene by the U.S. government, the album went double platinum, was No. 29 on the Billboard 200, and No. 3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

RIP to a real Miami legend, Fresh Ice Kid.
